Internet Policy

 

The Internet is a vast network of computer networks linking millions of computers.  Not all of these sources offer timely or reliable information.  The user is advised to be discriminating in regards to the validity of the information obtained on the Internet. 

The Parchment Library cannot control the information on the Internet.  The Parchment Community Library cannot be responsible for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through this service.


Patrons using the library's equipment to access the Internet have the responsibility to use the equipment in a respectful and caring manner.  Abuse or misuse of the Internet computer will result in loss of access privileges.

hildren aged 17 and younger must have a parental or guardian authorization to use the Internet.  The parent(s) or guardian(s) must read the Internet Policy before signing the consent form.   In order to comply with Michigan law PA 212, children aged 17 and younger must use a filtered Internet station.   The filter attempts to block sexually explicit sites.   However, no filter is completely effective.  Parents are urged to monitor their children's Internet use.
 

Library patrons are prohibited from accessing sexually explicit web sites.   Patrons who violate this rule will be asked to leave the site immediately, and may lose Internet privileges at the library, at the Directors' discretion. Only software provided by the library may be used. 

Installation of software belonging to patrons is prohibited.  Transmission of any material in violation of any US or state regulation is prohibited.   This includes, but is not limited to, copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material, or material protected by trade secret. 

Use for commercial activities is not acceptable.  Use for product advertisement or political lobbying is also prohibited.    Violation of this policy will result in loss of access privileges. 

The Parchment Community Library is not responsible for loss of data resulting from delays, non deliveries, mis-deliveries, or service interruptions caused by its own negligence or your errors or omissions. 

Internet stations are available on a first-come, first-served basis only.  
Persons with Parchment Community Library cards may obtain a log-in name and password to use our Interent workstations; persons without a PCL card may stop at the Reference Desk to be signed in as Guests.

Adult Internet users may use a station for one hour.
After one hour, adult users, excluding Guests, may receive up to two 15-minute extensions, unless all workstations are in use. Users under age 18 will be limited to 30 minutes of Internet use per day.

Internet stations will be shut down automatically 15 minutes before closing.
