LEARN TO MAKE A 3-D STAR

You've seen the large star/snowflakes hanging over the Circulation Desk. These simple stars are easy to make and suitable for all kinds of celebrations--birthdays, graduations, showers, holidays, etc. We will show you how to make one in this FREE half-hour workshop. BUTTERFLIES & MOTHS

Ilse Gebhard is back with colorful photos of butterflies and moths found in a rural Kalamazoo backyard. Her hour-long presentation covers their structural features and how to tell them apart, as well as their similar life cycles and a general overview of habitat requirements to attract them to your yard. Ilse will provide examples of specific butterflies and moths, along with their caterpillar food plants. Also covered are some of their habits and the threats to their survival. Have a look at her exhibit along with books to identify them and attract them to your yard. Free handouts of plants lists, where to purchase them locally, and milkweed seeds.

PARADE WORKSHOPS

Let's increase community participation in the Kindleberger Parade this summer! Two short workshops will be conducted on float-building and pet-decorating Almost anything motorized can be used as a float. Pets must be pulled in a wagon or cart to qualify.
No registration necessary.

Participants: Parchment High School science students with chemistry and physics demonstrations under the direction of Jake Klinger; Kalamazoo Air Zoo with a presentation on astronauts and an exhibit of artifacts; Kalamazoo Astronomical Society with a presentation and "crash course" on how to turn yourself into a star-hopping skymaster! and Kalamazoo Model Railroad Historical Society with a 10 x 30 ft. train display and discussion on Railroads in Parchment.

KALAMAZOO VEGETABLE PARCHMENT COMPANY REUNION

The Library is hosting a reunion for former employees of KVP and their spouses. Parchment residents and Kindleberger Festival attendees can also stop in to catch up with their co-workers and neighbors, as well as browse the Local History Room, and watch a 1928 KVP film. Rob Heasley and Dennis Durham will discuss Parchment in the past and Parchment in the future. Before you attend the plays on the Stage in Kindleberger Park, join us in an afternoon of reminiscing. This event is part of the Kindleberger Festival Community Events. No registration is necessary.
