Volunteer Buffet

Times listed are suggestions only and can vary as desired.

Choose as many as you wish!

(Jobs marked with an asterisk * are for those aged 18 and older)

Positions for Detail Oriented Persons

Friends Book Sale Room Organizer*

(2 hours per week; every Tuesday 10-12)

  • What you’ll do: Sort donated items and place them on book room shelves
  • You must be able to: Read print as small as 1/2 inch
  • Additional Desired Skills: Be able to bend to the floor and lift at least 5 pounds over your head
Shelf Reading Eagle Eye

(1 hour, 1 day per week)

  • What you’ll do: Scan items on shelves to be sure they are in the correct order; re-shelve as necessary
  • You must be able to: Bend to the floor and lift at least 5 pounds over your head; read print as small as 1/2 inch; stand and/or walk for at least 1 hour; arrange items by alphabetical and numerical order
Cleaning Champion

(1 hour, 1 day per week)

  • What you’ll do: Dust library shelves and display units using a Swiffer duster
  • You must be able to: Bend to the floor and reach over your head; stand or walk for at least one hour; tolerate a dusty environment
Landscape Custodian

(1 hour, 1 day per week)

  • What you’ll do: Trim*, pull weeds, pick up trash, mow the lawn* (you can pick any or all of these)
  • You must be able to: Work outside, bend to the ground and lift at least 5 pounds over your head

Positions for People Persons

Friends Book Sale Assistant*

(1 hour, 3 Fridays and 2 hours, 3 Saturdays per year)

  • What you’ll do: Help set up the book sale on the Friday before, and/or work a 2-hour shift during the Saturday book sale, and/or take down the sale once it has concluded.
  • You must be able to: Count money and make change
  • Additional Desired Skills: Be able to bend to the floor and reach over your head; lift 5 pounds
​Program Helper

(as needed depending on program, usually 1-4 hours)

  • What you’ll do: Assist as needed with library events; duties vary. Please indicate your preference for adult, teen, or children’s events
  • You must be able to: Bend to the floor and reach over your head; stand or walk for at least one hour; manipulate fine items
​Wassailing Emissary*

(2 hours on 1st Wednesday in December, 2-10 hours in November)

  • What you’ll do: Help with the annual Parchment Wassailing / Holiday Chocolate on the first Wednesday in December. Duties may include assisting with planning, contacting businesses, placing and removing lawn signs from participating businesses, riding the Holly Trolleys.
  • You must be able to: Bend to the floor and reach over your head; stand or walk for at least one hour.

Enhanced Volunteer Position

This job requires advanced skills and/or special training.

Local History Room Wizard* 

(1-2 hours a week or month; flexible)

  • What you’ll do: Assist in sorting and filing Local History Room materials. Use a computer to create finding aids, enter data into the library’s database, and/or upload library materials to the Internet
  • You must be able to: Manipulate fine items; read small print; place items in alphabetical order. Preferred skills: Fluent with Microsoft Office; able to upload files to the Internet.
